Contibuting Writers Information
Unique content on specific issues within the health, safety and workers' compensation fields is what drives Askthesafetyman.com. We accept articles and information written on general or very specific topics of interest related to industrial health, safety and worker's compensation. White papers, publishers with copy to distribute, thesis, anything that can help to shed some light and understanding on what can be confusing, challenging and at times intimidating topics are encouraged and welcomed. We love to receive articles written by product manufacturers or service providers that are content / topic driven, not sales pieces, hype or press releases.
Becoming a contributing writer is easy; submit an email to Askthesafetyman.com's content management editor. Leave the, "Contributing Writer Registration Request" in the subject line. Please share with us the area(s) of knowledge and experience that you would like to contribute and what, if any, manufacturer you represent. If your product, service, knowledge, experience, etc. fall within the broad health, safety or workers' compensation fields, we will send you an email that contains your temporary username and login information. Getting started is easy! When you receive your welcome email from our editorial staff, click the link within the email and you will be taken to your content management system log-in page. Enter your temporary username and password and you are ready to begin creating articles for submission. You will be able to change your username and password after you log into your account the first time. We do not guarantee that all submitted information will be published in the News Center if it does not meet our article submission guidelines.
Please note, our editorial staff will not edit your article / information and trust that you will submit quality, useful content. Articles submitted that do not meet our standards will be deleted. Contributing Writers agree to follow the Askthesafetyman.com Terms of Use and Article Submission Guidelines policies when submitting content to the News Center.
We firmly believe in the give and take system of content submission programs. That means you submit quality content to share with others, which is your, "Give". In exchange, you are encouraged to include your name, title, firm name (If appropriate), photograph (If desired), contact office number, fax and web address. You are certainly permitted to include your email address, just bear in mind that spammers may harvest the email address and begin sending unsolicited junk mail. We always recommend that contributing authors include their website address and let interested readers contact you from there, but it's up to you.
It's important to note that Askthesafetyman.com's revenue model includes the use of the Google Adsense Ad program. Sponsored ads will appear on all static site pages as well as in all articles posted within our content management system. While we control the placement of the ads, we have no control over which advertises ads appear within the ad place holders. The exception being that the ads would generally be targeted around health, safety, security, loss prevention or workers' compensation related arenas and have all inappropriate sites filtered out. Google Adsense program does not permit ads that are deemed socially inappropriate for display on any of their participating web sites. Content submitted for publishing through the News Center is not eligible to receive Ad Sense revenue.
You are permitted to submit as many articles as you desire. You may upload and include up to 25 pictures per article. Remember, keep the articles and photographs, "On Topic" and we will publish them immediately after being reviewed and approved by our editorial staff. You may login to your account at any time to create new articles or update previously posted articles. Please keep in mind that our editorial content staff must review and approve all new and modified articles before they are published in the News Center.
Your article, or a summary of your article, may also appear in our Safety Newsletter that is emailed free of charge to all of our subscribers. We believe in 100% "Opt In" email programs only. Interested site visitors are required to complete the email request form and then confirm their acceptance in a verification email that they receive immediately after registering. We want no part of any spamming programs or sending out unsolicited emails to anyone. Recipients of our emailed newsletters can, "Opt Out" at any time by clicking on the, “Opt Out” link contained in every email received from Askthesafetyman.com.
Dynamic content generated by you, our Contributing Writers, in our content management system is also automatically pushed out to all of our RSS subscribers. Askthesafetyman.com RSS Subscribers can choose to have the RSS feed assigned to their browser or they can choose to add it to their iGoogle and / or Yahoo! home pages. Content is pushed out to these feeds every 15 minutes as well as when the site visitor logs into their iGoogle or Yahoo! home pages.

From the Askthesafetyman.com home page, click the Contributing Writers link to access the login screen as seen below. When you sign-up to become a contributing Writer, we will provide you with a temporary username and password to use the first time you login to your account. You will be able to change your username and password once you're in your account.

Writers Account
Your account will look just like this. You will have the ability to create or edit existing articles, set or modify your user preferences and logoff of your account.

Article Creation Page
Once you've logged into your account, you will see the screen above, (just a small screenshot shown here). As you can see, it is a simple cut and paste system or, you can craft your article right from the content management system interface. All you need to do is copy your existing article, paste it into the article content window. Copy the first paragraph of your article and paste it into the article summary window. Enter the authors name, the title for the article, a file name will be automatically generated based on the article title, just click in the Filename field and the system will generate the filename. Then, click on the Catagories drop down menu and select the category that is most appropriate for your article. You are allowed to upload as many as 25 pictures per article! If you do not see a catagory listed that you feel is most appropriate for your article, include a note in brackets ( ) at the top of your article. Our editorial staff will review your article and the catagory reccomendation. If we agree with your suggestion, we will generate a new catagory and assign your article to the newly created catagory.

File Upload Page
You can add up to 25 photographs, embed media or attach files such as .PDF files into the article. Click on the "Add or Upload File(s)" link and it will allow you to browse your computer for the items that you would like to upload. Once uploaded, the article management system will generate simple image tags that look like.....***image1***, ***image2***, etc. for each item uploaded. Copy and paste the individual image tags anywhere in the article that you want the pictures or embedded media / file attachments to appear. Article Save Button
Once you are finished placing the image tags, simply click the Save button at the top or bottom of the page and your article will be generated.

View Website Button
You can click on the "View Website" link to be taken to your article page. Once your article(s) is / are approved by our editorial staff, you can click on the category that you saved your article to and you will be taken to the article summary page as shown below.

Article Summary Page
The article summary is just that, a summary of your published article. That's the first paragraph of your article. Note the photograph at the head of the article, placed there with a simple ***image1*** tag. To view the full text of your article, click on the "Read More" link at the bottom of your article summary.
Finally, you see the full text of the article that you published to the News Center. We never edit the content of your article or the photographs / files you upload and include within the article. Articles can be as long as you want, just keep them on topic and photographs / attachments relevant to the content of the article. If your article does not meet our publishing guidelines, it will not be approved for publishing. Once writers have proven that the content submitted is consistant with our article submission guidelines, their account status will be changed to, "Trusted Writer", and submitted contributions will no longer require prior approval and will be published live to the site.
